On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I'm also throwing my hat in the ring, to make the election competitive and because I'm very experienced in the Stack Exchange network.

I've been fascinated by drones and model aircraft quite a bit since I was a child, and flew many before they became popular, and as such signed on to the beta here.

Last year, I had been building a drone, but that was cut short due to the pandemic (stay-at-home order imposed at the time), so there wasn't much content for me to post here. However, I've been involved in this site indirectly, reading content and looking at the meta site and chat.

Why I'll make a good mod

  • I'm very experienced in the Stack Exchange network. I'm the key author and editor of most of the FAQ posts on Meta.SE, which are the primary documentation posts for details on how the system works.

  • I'm a good negotiator. Whenever there's a dispute between different users, I can step in and resolve it before it gets out of hand.

  • I'm passionate about drones - I've been flying model aircraft as a child.

  • I have spare time to contribute toward site moderation.

More details about my moderation style

Howdy, I'm anonymous2, a pro-tem moderator on Internet of Things. While I may not be the world's leading expert on drones & model aircraft, it is a subject which fascinates me, as indicated by the fact that I am #15 in the rep ranks for all time. I grant, that's inflated since much of it was gained during the private beta, but I remain deeply interested in the subject.

  • Previous moderation experience

  • High availability (typically from 8h-20h EST / UTC -5)

  • Passionate about drones

  • Easygoing personality

  • Not the world's leading subject matter expert

  • Low site participation recently

Anyhow, I'm happy if (a) more active user(s) step(s) up, but I'll throw my hat in the ring. Uncharacteristically, for the next two weeks I am only available in the evenings, but I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

This election is over.
